International Women’s Day 2018

“International Women’s Day” is a time to call for change, advocacy, activism and support, and celebrate all women who were courageous enough to speak out, fight for their rights, and push forward towards gender equality. Just–seemingly–ordinary women who proved to be anything but mundane!

The main aim for the event–which is annually celebrated on March 8–was initially for women to have equal pay, which is still an issue to this day, as well as achieving gender equality which also has not been realized.

Every year, the day has a new theme; “Press for Progress” is the theme of 2018. The annual campaign theme usually kicks off for the year ahead, and it does not end on IWD, as many groups worldwide adopt it throughout the year for further campaign work, gender-focused initiatives, continuing activity and events.

IWD is also not country, group or organization specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. It brings together global governments, women's organizations, businesses, and charities under the banner of IWD. There has never been a more important time to keep motivated and #PressforProgress. And with global activism for women's equality incited by movements like #MeToo  and #TimesUp –there is a strong global momentum striving for gender equality, which makes IWD 2018 the perfect opportunity to transform this momentum into action, to empower women in all settings, and recognize the activists who are working relentlessly to claim women’s rights and realize their full potential.

Happy International Women’s Day!
