International Kolkata Book Fair

The International Kolkata Book Fair also known as Antarjatik Kolkata Boimela or Antarjatik Kolkata Pustakmela in Romanized Bengali is the world's largest non-trade book fair, and the most attended Book fair in the World with an average record footfall of 2.5 million year on year, it occupies third position after Frankfurt Book Fair and London Book Fair in terms of accumulation of Books. The 41st edition of the Fair will be held January 25-February 5 2017 at the Milan Mela Ground in Kolkata, India. Authors, poets, and other creative personalities from the country grace the Inauguration ceremony of the International Kolkata Bookfair.

Every year there is a focal theme country, which gets an entire pavilion to showcase their culture, traditions, food, tourism, and literature through books. This year’s focal theme country is Costa Rica. “This is the only country in the world that does not have a national army and contributes the money for education” said Tridib Chatterjee, General Secretary of Publishers and Bookseller Guild. International Kolkata Bookfair will always be the next big festival after Durga Pujas to reinstate that the fact that Kolkata remains the cultural capital of India and to booklovers.

The fair is a good platform to new writers to publish their new books and make it known to public. It also helps authors to forward their books to publishers and publishers publish the books with the name of a particular publication. Also exhibitors who would like to advertise in the book fair can apply for that. Beside being an important cultural event in India, the fair has a touristic importance as well where it acts as a source of tourist attractions for the city, visitors from different  countries would like to visit India in the time of the fair.
